Near-Infrared (IR) light therapy is a relaxing, painless form of non-invasive light therapy that involves exposing the skin to light of a specific wavelength and spectrum. It’s aimed at stimulating damaged tissues in order to accelerate healing processes and restore the skin’s structural integrity.

This treatment involves the use of a light panel that emits Near-Infrared Light that is almost invisible to the naked eye. These rays stimulate the skin and promote collagen production. Collagen is one of the skin’s essential components that keeps it firm and elastic; the decline in collagen levels is responsible for various signs of cutaneous ageing. By stimulating collagen levels, Near-Infrared Light Therapy restores skin firmness and helps it look younger.

The collagen stimulatory effect of this treatment is further complemented by the ability of the light rays to penetrate to a deeper level. As it’s capable of repairing damage that occurs in the deeper layers of the skin, it provides a more significant rejuvenating effect than other forms of light therapy.

Along with red light, Near Infrared Light Therapy is commonly used to improve hair growth.

1What is it?

Near-Infrared (IR) Light Therapy works by increasing collagen levels in the skin, and supporting its natural healing and repair processes.

It is an advanced skin rejuvenation therapy that uses infrared light, which penetrates underneath the surface of the skin whilst leaving the superficial layer unaffected.

In this manner, Near-Infrared light therapy is suitable for ageing skin that is characterised by the appearance of deep pigmentation, wrinkles and sagging. Near-Infrared light therapy works naturally with your body by stimulating the production of new skin cells and collagen, achieving remarkable results without the risks associated with conventional laser treatments.

It is less aggressive than most other cosmetic therapies and can rejuvenate ageing skin painlessly without any side effects pr downtime. It also provides long-lasting results and is suitable for all skin types. It can be performed on most parts of the skin, including the areas affected by cellulite.

Areas commonly treated with Near Infrared light therapy include the face, upper arms, neck, décolleté, hands, thighs and abdomen.

2How does it work?

The Near Infrared Light Therapy procedure uses a predetermined level of infrared light rays. The affected parts of the skin are exposed to the mild heat and light energy emitted from the IR light panel. This energy stimulates water within the skin along with other tissues, causing collagen fibres to tighten and contract. It also stimulates the activities of fibroblasts that repair skin cells and helps to produce new, healthy cells that replace old and damaged cells. This heals damaged skin from within and generates a rejuvenating effect.

Near-Infrared Light Therapy can restore the natural glow on your face by improving the firmness and elasticity of the skin and smoothening out the ageing signs like fine lines and wrinkles. It gives a longer-lasting firmness by reducing skin folds and sagging.

Also, since the Near Infrared light therapy only heats the deeper tissues of the skin containing collagen, it leaves the superficial layer unaffected. This is why; Near Infrared light therapy is considered a safer and more effective treatment for managing skin imperfections that arise due to the loss of collagen and other issues affecting the deeper skin layers.

Near-Infrared light is also recommended for stimulating the growth of hair. It involves exposure of the scalp to these light rays, which can also stimulate the hair follicles and improve hair growth.
